It's no secret that plenty of folks think unlikely myths and theories are true, but it can be surprising when you find out a favorite celebrity is one of those people.

Shaquille O'Neal shocked fans with a recent Instagram post which revealed the NBA legend's previously held beliefs about a seemingly straightforward topic: chocolate milk.

On August 26, the NBA legend shared an image of a brown cow with the following text: "23 million Americans believe chocolate milk comes from brown cows." The former basketball pro also included a video of himself looking puzzled.

"I ain’t gone lie I thought that to [sic]," Shaq captioned the post.

In the comments, fans seemed to think (or hope) Shaq was joking.

"Ya'll know Shaq silly as hell. 😂😂😂😂," wrote one person.

"I hope they’re all kids 😂," commented a second Instagram user, while a third fan admitted they also bought into the chocolate milk/brown cow lie, writing, "U just like me frfr."

According to CNN , the fact shared by Shaq is actually true (though the numbers are slightly off). A 2017 survey from the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy found that 7% of adults in the U.S. think chocolate milk comes from brown cows, which translates to about 17.3 million people.

This isn't the first time Shaq has shared a controversial idea. In a 2022 appearance on The Kyle & Jackie O Show , he doubled down on his 2017 comments about the Earth being flat .

“It’s a theory, it’s just a theory, they teach us a lot of things,” he said, adding that his plane “flew straight” from the U.S. to Australia, which made him think the Earth is not round.

He also questioned whether or not the planet actually spins.

“I’ve been living on a house on a lake for 30 years, not once did the lake rotate to the left or right," he said.
