LeBron James is opening up about his personal boundaries while playing on the basketball court with his son, Bronny James .
The pair recently made history as the first father-son duo to play in the NBA simultaneously, after the 19-year-old rising sports star was drafted to his dad's current team, the Los Angeles Lakers. He had previously played in college for the University of Southern California's Trojans.
One of the biggest questions for the upcoming season of the professional basketball league has been whether or not the father of three will answer to "dad" on the court—and according to the four-time NBA championship winner, the answer is absolutely not.
Among the things Bronny is allowed to address his dad as on the court? "2-3" in reference to his jersey number, 23, "Bron," or, if he prefers, "G.O.A.T."

On the upcoming episode of HBO's The Shop: Uninterrupted , the longtime hoop star made his rule clear: "No, he can't—Cannot call me 'dad' in the workplace. Once we leave out the private facility and the gates close, I can be 'dad' again. In the car, if we ride together; at home, I could be 'dad.'"
"No, he gotta call me like, '2-3' or 'Bron,'" the 39-year-old, who is preparing to play in his historic 22nd season, doubled down. He even joked that Bronny also may call him "G.O.A.T." if he'd like, which seemingly won't be much of an issue, as it was revealed the teen has been referring to his superstar dad by his first name for quite some time now.
"We cannot be running down the court and he'd be like, 'Dad, I'm open! Dad, come on!' No you cannot do that," the legendary basketball star added of playing alongside his firstborn.
LeBron shares Bronny, in addition to his two other children—son Bryce , 17, and daughter Zhuri , 9—with his high school sweetheart-turned-wife, Savannah James .
The Los Angeles Lakers are set to kick off their preseason on Oct. 4, 2024 , as they face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
