Jenna Ortega Shows Some Skin in Sheer Cut-Out Gown With Dangerously Low Back

Jenna Ortega updated another iconic Lydia Deetz look while celebrating the premiere of her new movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice , this week at the Venice International Film Festival.

The movie, which is a sequel to the 1988 Tim Burton horror comedy classic, stars Ortega as Astrid Deetz. Winona Ryder , who played Lydia in the original, reprises her role in the new film, with the Wednesday actress playing the teenage daughter of Ryder’s character.

In the 1980s cult classic, Ryder memorably wore a red tulle-covered wedding dress, a look that has inspired countless Halloween costumes over the years. In a nod to that iconic outfit, Ortega wore a sheer red tulle dress of her own while walking the red carpet at the international film festival in Venice, Italy, on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

The top of Ortega’s dress had a heart-shaped cut, covering her chest and stretching into a thin line over her stomach before meeting the gown’s filmy red skirt. While the skirt itself reached all the way to the ground, matching well with the red carpet Ortega walked upon, the back of the dress was dangerously low, leaving all of Ortega’s own back exposed with only two thin straps attaching the front of the dress to the back of its skirt.

Ortega, 21, paired the bright red look with matching red lipstick and silver statement jewelry, pinning her black hair back into a messy bun that held together at the nape of her neck.

Ryder was also photographed on the red carpet, striking a pose beside Ortega while wearing a tulle skirt of her own. While the bright color of Ortega’s outfit was attention-grabbing, Ryder’s all-black look contrasted sharply with that of her co-star.

The film’s premiere event occurred a little more than one week before the movie is due to arrive in theaters on Sept. 6. Michael Keaton reprises his role as the movie’s title character, with Catherine O’Hara , Willem Dafoe , Monica Bellucci and Justin Theroux also starring in the new film.
