Fans Urge Jenna Bush Hager to ‘Buckle Up’ As She Reveals How Her 5-Year-Old Son Hal Pranked Her

Fans can already tell that Jenna Bush Hager’s youngest child is turning into the “jokester” of her family after the Today with Hoda and Jenna co-host revealed the prank he recently pulled on her.

As the former first daughter explained to her co-host, Hoda Kotb , on Thursday, Sept. 5, she was picking 5-year-old Hal up from his first day of pre-K when he threw a curveball into their conversation about the first day of school.

Hal’s analysis was that the day was “Pretty good, but I went to the principal’s office,” Bush Hager, 42, recalled.

“Day one,” she reflected. “I mean, the school day was, like, 12 minutes, too.”

When asked why he’d been sent to the principal’s office on his first day, Hal told his mother that he “squirted applesauce,” though the specific details surrounding the situation appeared vague. Bush Hager’s 11-year-old daughter Mila , who was in the car with them, also cast doubt on the story.

After Bush Hager told her son she’d ask his teacher for clarification, he revealed his prank. “He knew he was busted. ‘JK, I had the best day ever!’” she recalled Hal saying, revealing that he had made up the story about his trip to the office.

“Your son is already messing with you,” Kotb, 60, marveled before laughing as she quoted Hal’s shorthand for “just kidding”: “‘JK!’”

“Wow he’s too much lol 😝 he’s going to be ur jokester child !! 😂😂😂😂,” one fan wrote after the Today show shared a clip from Bush Hager’s conversation with Kotb on Instagram .

“He’s going to be a handful 😂❤️,” one fan laughed as another urged Bush Hager to “Buckle up 😆!!”

“He knew how to get you - so cute,” one Instagram user commented, while a different fan said that the story was “Cracking me up! 🤣🤣.”

Hal, who celebrated his 5th birthday last month, is the youngest child that Bush Hager shares with her husband, Henry Hager . The two also share daughters Mila , 11, and Poppy , 9.
