After a series of delays, FOX’s hit procedural spinoff 9-1-1: Lone Star will finally return for its fifth and final season in September of 2024. The show will look a little different this year, because original cast member Sierra McClain ( Grace Ryder ) is not returning after contract negotiations broke down, per Deadline .

Originally launched as a spinoff from the first responder drama 9-1-1, Lone Star follows New York City firefighter Owen Strand ( Rob Lowe ) after he relocates with his son to Austin, Texas, and tries to bring his east coast sensibilities to the Lone Star State. The new season will see the first responders of the 126 faced with a whole slew of new emergencies to contend with, alongside their own ongoing personal drama. Here’s what we know so far about Lone Star S eason 5.

Will 9-1-1 Lone Star end with Season 5?

Early in September, Fox confirmed that Season 5 of 9-1-1 Lone Star will be the show's last.

“From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere,” said Fox TV Network President Michael Thorn in a statement, per Deadline . “Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

This announcement confirms rumors that have been swirling since the spring of 2024, ever since Deadline reported that several cast members had begun looking for new opportunities, ahead of their options officially expiring on July 19th. That date came and went with no word of a renewal.

Statements from some cast members also raised eyebrows, especially an Instagram Story posted by actress Natacha Karam (Marjan Marwani). “Eight more shooting days left after five years on a show is a wild feeling,” she wrote alongside a broken-hearted emoji, per TVLine . “So much change on the horizon.” Meanwhile, Brian Michael Smith (Paul Strickland) linked to a “Save 9-1-1 Lone Star ” petition on his own Instagram story. So there were definitely warning signs, but the cancellation confirmation still stung.

What is 9-1-1 Lone Star Season 5 about?

Season 5 will see the departure of original cast member Sierra McClain and Jim Parrack, who play husband and wife Grace and Judd Ryder. While it’s not yet clear how McClain’s exit will be written into the show, Parrack’s character Judd Ryder is reportedly leaving the team to spend more time with his family. One storyline in the new season will reportedly center on Paul and Marjan competing for his now-vacant position.

A promo for Season 5 also confirmed that Judd’s son Wyatt (Jackson Pace) is now working as a dispatcher on the team, possibly replacing Grace.

Who's in the 9-1-1 Lone Star Season 5 cast?

Despite losing two OG characters, the ensemble will otherwise look pretty similar to previous seasons. Here are the key actors confirmed to be returning:

Lowe has starred in all four seasons to date, and also serves as an executive producer on the show.

Gina Torres as Captain Tommy Vega

Karam will return as firefighter and adrenalin junkie Marjan. The actress posted an emotional update to Instagram shortly before Season 5 wrapped, fuelling speculation that the show’s end is imminent.

    Ronen Rubinstein as T.K. Strand

Rubinstein reprises the role of T.K., Captain Strand’s son, a recovering opioid user who became a paramedic during the show’s third season.

Brian Michael Smith as Paul Strickland

Smith will return as firefighter and paramedic Paul for a fifth season.

Rafael L. Silva as Carlos Reyes

Silva will return to play Carlos, a police officer who married T.K. in the Season 4 finale.

    Jackson Pace as Wyatt Harris

The first promo for Season 5 revealed that Wyatt is replacing Grace as the team’s main 9-1-1 operator, meaning that Pace will likely feature more prominently than in previous seasons.
