Before we head into autumn and sweater weather, let's enjoy the last days of summer. If you're like me, you're probably trying to avoid the triple-digit highs by relaxing in an air-conditioned home with a cool drink in your hand a movie playing on the screen. Great American Family premieres on their network one of the last movies of the summer with The Engagement Plan which features some very recognizable names from the 80s and 90s.

What is The Engagement Plan about?

In The Engagement Plan , Wade ( Jack Schumacher ) has a plan for everything! Wade’s plan to propose to his girlfriend, Kayla ( Mia Pollini ) may be the crowning achievement of plans. With a 3-carat diamond ring in tow and reservations booked at the Waldorf for his parents, Dash and Margot, ( Eva LaRue , Judd Nelson ) and Kayla’s parents, Ed and Mama Marilyn ( Ted McGinley , Faith Ford ), Wade marvels at the absolute perfection of his engagement plan. Until his plan hits a dead end on a dirt road, a country road. Kayla changes the plan to have Wade meet at her family’s farm to help her mom and dad whose cow is expecting a calf any day. Dressed in business best, Wade – a fish out of water – has an unexpected – and definitely an unplanned encounter with a family who is not convinced he is right for Kayla. Then Wade meets her ex-boyfriend who tries to prove it.

Meet the cast of The Engagement Plan

Jack Schumacher (Wade)

Schumacher played Lt. Neil "Omaha" Vikander, one of the Top Gun pilots in Top Gun: Maverick. His other credits include S.W.A.T., Chicago P.D., and Empire.

Mia Pollini (Kayla)

Pollini got her start young on film sets as the child of a single mother who worked in craft service. The actress and comedian has appeared on SEAL Team, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, and Miss Nobody.

Ted McGinley (Ed)

McGinley got his start on Happy Days , playing a nephew of the Cunninghams. He would go on to have regular roles on The Love Boat, Sports Night, and The West Wing. It seems like he has appeared on every major TV series since the 70s including Fantasy Island, Evening Shade, and Mad Men. He has also done a lot of voice work including Batman: Brave & the Bold, Transformers: Robots in Disguise, and Family Guy.

Faith Ford (Marilyn)

Ford is probably best known for her role as Corky Sherwood on Murphy Brown opposite Candice Bergen as well as the show's revival in 2018. Other credits include The Pacifier, Trading Christmas, and

Fun fact: This isn't the first time McGinley and Ford have paired up for a project. The two previously played husband and wife on the ABC comedy, Hope & Faith. The pair also play a couple in the Hallmark Channel film, The Bridge , based on the Karen Kingsbury novel of the same name.

Eva LaRue (Margot)

LaRue is best known for her role as Dr. Maria Santos Grey on All My Children . She has had roles on a variety of television shows including Hope & Faith, Criminal Minds, and Fuller House. She currently stars as Natalia Rogers-Ramirez on General Hospital.

Fun fact: At one point, LaRue was married IRL to her All My Children on-screen love, John Callahan .

Judd Nelson (Dash)

Nelson was part of the group of actors in the 1980s known as "The Brat Pack" which included Demi Moore , Andrew McCarthy , Emilio Estevez , Molly Ringwald , and Ally Sheedy . Best known for films like The Breakfast Club, New Jack City, and St. Elmo's Fire, Nelson has also appeared in television shows like Suddenly Susan, Billionaire Boys Club, and Nikita . He has also voiced characters on Phineas and Ferb, Ben 10, and Family Guy.

The Engagement Plan premieres Saturday, Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on Great American Family.
