After announcing his retirement in May, the former Philadelphia Eagles center, 36, joined the show ahead of a matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets.
“We are thrilled to welcome in a six-time first-team all-NFL selection, future gold jacket wearer. He’s got a podcast that’s apparently doing fairly well,” Scott Van Pelt said in a clip shared by ESPN via TikTok . “All that said, Jason Kelce is wearing a shirt he got at the mall because he left his travel bag in the truck.”
As the camera zoomed in, viewers could more clearly see Jason wearing a white long-sleeved button-up shirt while sitting next to three men clad in suit jackets.
“It fits my belly now—I’ve lost a little bit of weight—but my t--s are still struggling,” Jason quipped as a small portion of his chest was visible through a separated portion where the buttons meet.
“Surprised he even bought a new one, and didn’t just go shirtless,” the younger Kelce brother wrote, likely referencing when Jason ripped off his shirt at a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills in January.
Meanwhile, the official account for the brothers' podcast New Heights joked, "Why didn’t Jason bring a shirt for Jason?"
The comment was a callback to a conversation between Travis and Jason about the Eagles player forgetting to pack jeans for himself for the premiere of the Prime Video docuseries Kelce. Comically, Jason attempted to blame his wife, Kylie , for his mistake–and Travis called him out for it.
"I was going to have jeans on but Kylie was running late," Jason explained. "I was coming straight from football. Kylie was going to bring the jeans. Kylie was late."
"Why didn't Jason bring jeans for Jason?" Travis pointed out.
"Because I was at football and I needed the jeans for after football. And I'm not gonna wear jeans all day, that just doesn't sound fun," Jason replied before admitting, "I'm realizing now I probably can't blame Kylie for this."
Fashion faux pas aside, if Jason's Monday Night Countdown debut is any indication of what's to come this season, NFL fans are sure to be highly entertained.
