AMC Movie Theatre’s ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’-Themed Drink Has Fans Saying ‘Yikes’ for All the Wrong Reasons

In recent years, moviegoers have gotten used to forking over plenty of cash for popcorn, soda, and candy—but the price tag on one new cinema-specific treat is causing some serious sticker shock.

AMC Theatres' Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promotional drink is generating lots of buzz on social media right now, but it's not the kind of hype you might hope for. Called the Sandworm Slayer, it's a specialty cocktail topped with sour gummy worms, and some people have apparently paid over $30 for the blue beverage.

"I bought the AMC BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE themed drink. It cost $31 dollars..." one X user captioned a photo of the drink.

In a second photo of the menu, the poster clarified that the price was $28.25 (before tax).

"YIKEs! 31 with tax then. It should at least come in a collector’s cup for that," commented one person.

"For real! A little happy meal toy or something," agreed a similarly disgruntled X user.

In another comment, an AMC employee shared a pic of a cash register confirming that the drink is particularly pricey (though it appeared to sell for a few dollars cheaper at their location).

"I think I sent a lady into shock yesterday because she wanted 3 of the AMC BEETLEJUICE drinks... yeah MB bro like I have control of prices," the AMC worker captioned their post.

To be fair, the 24 ounce Sandworm Slayer is more than just a soda with candy on top. According to the AMC website , it includes "premium" vodka, along with blue and black raspberry flavoring. As anyone who's ever gone to a concert or a sporting event at a stadium knows, mixed alcoholic drinks in this context can easily run about $20 (or more).

What you pay for one of these brightly-colored concoctions will also depend on where you live, as AMC told The Hollywood Reporter . While the price at 92 percent of AMC Theatres is $21 plus tax, liquor pricing laws in some areas can make it as expensive as $28.25.

Or, like one person on X, you can make your own (non-alcoholic) version for considerably less:

Unfortunately, a homemade Sandworm Slayer wouldn't be easy to smuggle into a viewing of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice —but you can always wait until the movie starts streaming !

The haunted apple soda was very good the first time, but after the second or third step of it, I couldn't take it anymore and it gagged me ever since...
