Nicole Kidman Issues Heartfelt Message After Major Family Loss

Nicole Kidman is very grateful for all the love–whether it be from people she has personal connections with or fans–shared with her following the sudden passing of her mother, Janelle .

The Big Little Lies actress and producer shared an emotional statement thanking all of the people in her life for their support, alongside a slideshow of images that featured a portrait of her late mother as well as family photos showing her and her sister, Antonia , posing with their mom.

"My sister and I along with our family want to thank you for the outpouring of love and kindness we have felt this week. Every message we have received from those who loved and admired our Mother has meant more to us than we will ever be able to express," Kidman, 57, wrote in the caption of her Sept. 12 Instagram post. "Thank you from our whole family for respecting our privacy as we take care of each other ❤️."

As Parade previously reported, Kidman was supposed to be receiving the Best Actress award for her new film Babygirl at the 2024 Venice Film Festival when she learned her mother had died and abruptly left the event. The film's director, Halina Reijn , instead accepted the honor on her behalf and read aloud a prepared statement from the Academy Award winner.

"Today I arrived in Venice, only to find out shortly after that my beautiful, brave mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, has just passed," the saddening note read.

"I'm in shock and I have to go to my family, but this award is for her. She shaped me, she guided me and she made me. I am beyond grateful that I get to say her name to all of you through Halina," the solemn statement from The Perfect Couple star concluded. "The collision of life and art is heartbreaking, and my heart is broken."
