Jelly Roll is undoubtedly beaming with pride over the news that he'll be performing on the premiere of Saturday Night Live's 50th season—an accomplishment that he said he was "going to cry for a few hours and call every family member I have" about and which left many fans feeling "so proud" when it was first announced—but some are feeling a sense of betrayal after the exciting news required the country artist to tweak his schedule.
The "Somebody Save Me" singer was set to perform at the UBS arena on Long Island on Saturday, Sept. 28, but he pushed the concert date to the following Monday in order to perform on the storied sketch series, leaving some fans "frustrated" over the change in plans.
"Great for you to get to live out a dream," one wrote underneath his Instagram announcement , going on to call it "pretty bad" to "disappoint" those who had bought tickets, booked hotels and planned to travel. "I hope you offer [a] refund...That would be true support to the fans," they concluded.
"Really happy for you but really frustrated because my girlfriend and I had booked these tickets the day you announced your tour, booked travel and hotel and now it’s all for nothing," another said, revealing that it was "just a notification from Ticketmaster" that alerted them to change, adding, "couldn’t send out an email explaining what happened?"
"No loyalty to your fans at all," a third asserted. "Rescheduling a concert that has been booked for months. Extremely disappointed."
"So SNL means more to you than fans????? Wow! Roll on Jelly!" another added.
Someone else acknowledged the "great opportunity" but felt the decision to take advantage of it showed "how much your care about your fan base as a lot of us were supposed to see you that night and now have to see you in a Monday." The so-called fan also said they'd "for sure be booing" the singer as he takes the stage. "...This whole this was such a scummy move!"
"Congrats," another comment read. "Too bad it comes at the expense of sacrificing your previous commitment to YOUR FANS who purchased tickets months ago to see you at UBS Arena the same night for a last minute invite to appear on TV instead. Moving a Saturday concert to a Monday night? WTF?! But hey, we all have priorities, right? Too bad yours don't include fan loyalty."
It's a backlash reminiscent of Chappell Roan's fanbase after the up-and-coming pop star needed to cancel and postpone a series of European concerts to accommodate her performance at this year's VMAs, with one fan calling her "so unprofessional" for the move.
