The Genius Snack That Has Us Rushing to the Store to Buy Oreos

We love trying v iral food combinations that blend flavors or textures in ways you wouldn’t expect. It's so fun when two foods that shouldn't work actually do. Think, for example, olive oil and ice cream , bacon and chocolate or French fries and Frosty's . These combos balance sweet and savory flavors in a surprising way, play with textures and temperatures and are a fun new way to eat some of your favorite foods.
But one recent viral food combo has us scratching our heads—but also piqued our interest. Content creator @that40yearguy shared the curious combo on TikTok and we can't believe it actually tastes good.
According to @that40yearguy, you should be dipping your Oreo cookies in sour cream. This might seem like an unusual pairing, but fans say that it's shockingly good. "My mind is blown. That's amazing," he said when he tried the viral snack
The idea here is the rich, chocolatey Oreos paired with the smooth, tangy sour cream create an Oreo cheesecake vibe, but without all the work. Both Oreos and sour cream are rich in their own ways, but when combined, they make each flavor a bit more mellow, which allows them to work together, rather than against each other.
In the comments to the TikTok he shared, someone said that this combo reminds them of the Wendy's Frosty and fries treat that everyone seems to love. "Sour cream tastes great on a lot of things, very versatile," someone else added.
"Sour cream is used in some desserts, so mixing it with Oreos I can't imagine would be a bad thing," someone said in the comments. At this point, we walked to the kitchen and realized we had both ingredients, so you know what came next.
We had standard Oreos and full-fat sour cream in one of those squeeze bags on hand, so that's the combo that we used. The tanginess of the sour cream was pretty tasty with the Oreo and because it was fresh from the fridge it was also cold, which added a nice temperature contrast.
Did it taste like Oreo cheesecake? Not really. Did it remind us of fries with a Frosty? Even less so. All of that said, it was tasty. We're thinking that maybe using Oreo Thins instead of regular Oreos might balance things out a bit better because the Oreo filling is pretty sweet. In our opinion, this is definitely not a moment for a Double Stuff Oreo. What could also be fun is to make a dessert board that includes mini Oreos and strawberries, plus small bowls of sour cream and brown sugar for dipping. You'd dip the mini Oreos in the sour cream and the berries in the sour cream and then dip them in the brown sugar. We think that could be a really fun and easy party dessert.
