Hoda Kotb just made a huge career announcement , sharing with her costars and viewers that she's stepping away from the Today show early next year, and fans are completely losing their cool after hearing the news.
As Parade previously reported, the longtime anchor delivered the life update live on the broadcast on Thursday, Sept. 26, saying, "I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 , and to try something new."
She continued: "I remembered standing outside looking at these beautiful bunch of people with these gorgeous signs, and I thought, 'This is what the top of the wave feels like for me.' And I thought it can't get better, and I decided that this is the right time for me to kind of move on."
Immediately following the tearful admission, fans and supporters of the show took to social media to express their thoughts on Kotb's bittersweet news, and many could barely hold it together.
"Massive loss to that show," one wrote in a thread on X (formerly Twitter), as another admitted they "shed tears this morning."
They added , "So surprised at this news and will miss Hoda in the mornings. My days have begun with her for many years. I've always felt that she's the real deal. I'm 2 miles from 30 rock...maybe I'll get up there one day crack of dawn to see her. Love u Hoda!"
A wave of saddened comments continued, like a few who added , "We will miss you Hoda!!! It just won’t be the same. Best wishes," " @hodakotb is one of the main reasons I watch Today as I get ready each morning. She’s such a ray of sunshine & so joyful. Someone even candidly admitted , "I just fell to my knees," while another commenter said they were "crying like a baby" upon hearing the news.
Meanwhile, one social media user brought a bit of sunshine back to the conversation, writing, "Noooooo!!! Very happy for Hoda but sad for the rest of us!"
During the emotional delivery, the children's book author noted that although she's stepping down from Today , she is "staying with the NBC family ."
