Shania Twain is waving the American flag high, and doing so in style. Fans, however, thought she made a bold political statement with her latest fashionable accessory.

The country songstress took to Instagram on Wednesday, Sept. 25 to share a new photo ahead of Thursday's People's Choice Country Awards , which she's hosting in Nashville this year.

In it, she stood on a balcony in the middle of the Tennessee capital, waving a huge American flag in one hand. The "You're Still the One" singer was dressed casually in black athletic leggings, sneakers, a white T-shirt and a baseball cap—but it was her choice of outerwear that eagle-eyed fans immediately noticed.

Over the leisure outfit, Twain sported a turquoise-colored cable knit cardigan from Taylor Swift 's collection of merchandise. The article of clothing featured buttons down the middle and "1989" on the front chest area.

Fans in the comments of the social media post linked the fashion choice to the pop star, noticing things like "Ofc Shania is a swiftie! 😍" and "omg the 1989 cardigan I CANT COPE 🥺🥺❤️‍🔥."

Others called for a joint project, as one chimed in, "Omg the TAYLOR SWIFT CARDIGAN AHH a Shania and Taylor collab, when??? 😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️."

However, the combination of the flag and the cardigan in the picture had people convinced she was showing support for the 2024 presidential candidate Swift recently endorsed , Kamala Harris . Some dropped in with explicit comments bashing Harris' political opponent , Donald Trump .

Others called out Twain for her fashion choice, with one Instagram user declaring, "She should not be wearing that sweater!"

Meanwhile, instead of assuming, someone else took the straightforward approach, directly asking, "Who we voting for sis??"

There is no evidence that a political stance was the intention behind the photo or Twain's accessory, but one thing's for sure: The "That Don't Impress Me Much" singer certainly stirred up a big reaction among her fans.
