The Costco Coffee Change We Wish We’d Known About Sooner

Starbucks coffee is primarily produced by Starbucks Coffee Company , which sources, roasts and packages its own coffee . The company controls the entire supply chain, from buying beans directly from coffee farms to roasting them to their specific flavor profiles.

Starbucks also produces several private-label coffees, often crafted for retail partners and sold under different brand names. Some of the most notable are Seattle’s Best Coffee and Kirkland Signature for Costco . These products maintain Starbucks' quality standards while expanding Starbucks’ reach beyond its branded stores.

But one major shift has happened at Costco and this is a coffee dupe we wish we knew about sooner! Content creator @LORAfied shared the news on Instagram and we are shocked.

"Have you noticed a difference in your Costco Kirkland brand coffee? There’s something pretty big brewing and the savings is HUGE!" Lora says in the caption to her Instagram post.

So who is behind Costco coffee? Lora did some digging to find out and many people are going to love this change.

Enveritas is now producing Kirkland Signature coffee for Costco and if you have never heard of that name before, maybe you'll recognize them by another coffee they produce—Peet's.

Enveritas is a non-profit organization that works to improve sustainability in the coffee industry. The company's mission is to end global poverty in the coffee sector by 2030. Enveritas also produces coffee for Philz Coffee, Blue Bottle Coffee and Stumptown Coffee.

This is exciting news for people who prefer Peet's coffee to Starbucks. Peet’s is known for its dark roasts and bold, intense flavors, and because the company emphasizes small-batch roasting, they often have very fresh-tasting coffee.

But aside from the flavor preferences, it's also a great change for those who want to save some money. Per ounce, Kirkland's coffee comes in at .32 cents.

For comparison, Peet's coffee is $1.32 an ounce, Philz coffee comes in at $1.33 an ounce, Blue Bottle coffee rings in at $1.42 an ounce, and Stumptown coffee is a $1.67 an ounce, according to Lora. For those who don't want to do the math, Kirkland's coffee saves you a whopping 500% when you compare it per ounce to the name-brand coffees. With those savings, you can buy yourself a treat (or three!) at the Costco bakery to go along with your coffee.
