As unlikely as Travis Kelce 's transition from NFL pro to actor might be, he's not the first football star to follow the same career trajectory.

Former San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis made a similar switch, racking up acting credits since retiring as an athlete (including a recent appearance in The Ritual Killer with Morgan Freeman ), and he stopped by TMZ Live on Thursday, Oct. 3, to weigh in on Kelce's dramatic chops in the Ryan Murphy series Grotesquerie .

"My boy Travis did a great job, I love Travis," Davis said. "That's my guy...he did a wonderful job."

"His acting was on point," Davis continued. "He was very poised. Seemed like a natural to me."

Davis also shared his multitasking advice for Kelce, who's been criticized for his "slow start" this season (with many saying he's "distracted" by Taylor Swift and his multiple outside projects).

"As long as you don't let yourself spread too far out," he said, "you can do it."

Kelce made his Grotesquerie debut on Wednesday, Oct. 2, playing a nurse at the hospital where Niecy Nash-Betts ' character, Detective Lois Tryon, is visiting her comatose husband Marshall ( Courtney B Vance ).

In the episode, Kelce's character, Ed, approached Lois as she smoked a cigarette outside the hospital and struck up a conversation. Lois pulled out a flask and started to drink, prompting Ed to warn her not to drive, but she got in her car and left anyway.

In the next scene, Lois crashed her car into a pole, waking up in the hospital with Ed as her nurse. She then convinced Ed to help her sneak out of the hospital, with the pair holding hands as they ran through the hallways, finally leaving together in a red convertible with Ed at the wheel.
