Ahead of Saturday Night Live Season 50, we were excited about the idea of some recent and instantly iconic sketches getting a reprisal during the historic fiftieth season of the NBC sketch-comedy franchise. And we didn't have to wait long for one of them to make its grand return to the show. During last night's episode of SNL , comedian Nate Bargatze returned to Studio 8H to host for the second time (with Coldplay as musical guest) and he happily brought back his fan-favorite George Washington sketch with him

The recurring bit finds Bargatze as then-General Washington, who tries to pep up a boatful of weary Revolutionary War soldiers (played by Kenan Thompson , Mikey Day , Bowen Yang and James Austin Johnson ) with his dreams for America during a sail across the Delaware River in 1776. However, Washington's explanations of some of the new customs his troops will be encountering in the United States offer the men more confusion than comfort.

"We fight to control our own destiny, to create our own nation and to do our own thing with the English language," Washington proclaims. That means such head-scratching stuff as having a word for the number twelve — i.e. "dozen" — but for no other numbers; calling the first year of school "kindergarten" but the second "first grade"; and having two names for animals, one for when they're alive and a different one for when they become food (except, weirdly, chicken).

A hilarious holdover from the first iteration of "Washington's Dream," which debuted during Bargatze's Season 49 episode last October, is the general pointedly ignoring all of the race-based queries from the sole Black soldier, played by Thompson. Fingers crossed Bargatze is back in Season 51 to complete the sketch trilogy.

That first sketch was perfect and I can’t believe how good the second stab at Washington was just as funny.
