Hoda Kotb Shares Rare Health Update for Daughter Hope After Previous Scare

Hoda Kotb made a rare comment about her youngest daughter, Hope , who was hospitalized in the intensive care unit for nearly a week in February 2023 .

While Kotb has kept much of the details regarding her daughter's medical emergency , hospitalization and continued care private, she told People , "She is improving, we’re watching her, and I think that as time goes on, we’ll have a better handle on it."

The Today personality also revealed that she's "already [been] seeing great differences" in the 5-year-old since her February 2023 health scare, happily admitting that her daughter is "thriving" and gushing over members of the medical community and loved ones who have offered their support.

"We have really excellent care, I have people who are helping us out. I feel like she is finding steady footing," Kotb, 60, added.

The Making Space podcaster also suggested that the family's recent move from their Upper West Side apartment to a house in Westchester has had a positive impact on Hope and her older sister, Haley , 7—both of whom she shares with her ex-fiancé, Joel Schiffman —now get to experience “being barefoot and on grass” while running around their yard and playing on their swing set.

Their relocation is the latest in a series of changes Kotb has made in her life, including a pending career switch-up as she announced she would be leaving her usual spot on the Today show sometime in early 2025, about a month after ringing in her milestone 60th birthday .

“I knew that I wanted this decade to be different. I looked at my time like a pie. I was like, this is how much time I get, and now what am I going to do with it and how am I going to carve it up? And I wanted it to be filled with more of them, " she shared with the outlet.

As for who could replace her , she wasn't willing to tease any predictions, but she did offer some advice: "Whoever's interested in that seat, and it's maybe the best seat in television, I think the best advice I have is to be 1,000 percent who you are because that's really the key."

"And the other thing, too, is sometimes to me, part of the magic is to be able to delight in the person sitting next to you," she added. "It's such a small thing, but sometimes when you're with someone, if you just let them shine. Give everyone a second, because who wants to be the person at the cocktail party who's talking all the time?"
