This Saturday, singer/actress Ariana Grande returned to the stage of Saturday Night Live as a second-time host (although she's also starred in sketches during her two other musical guest appearances), and her performance was nothing short of wicked (see what we did there?). Ahead of her return, fans hoped that she might dust off some of the celebrity impressions she’s done on the sketch show in the past . And even though during her opening monologue , the “thank you, next” singer cheekily insisted she wouldn’t be singing or doing any impressions, Ariana just couldn’t help herself. And we are grateful! In the monologue alone, she rattled off impressions of other singers like Britney Spears and Gwen Stefani .
Later, in a video short, Grande stepped into a portrayal of powerhouse songstress, Celine Dion , poking fun at a Sunday Night Football promo that featured the French Canadian singer musing on the nostalgic power of football. In SNL ’s take, however, Celine changed the lyrics to her iconic “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” for a slightly less family-friendly sporting event: UFC. “When I hit you like this. When you choke me like that," was a s Throughout the sketch, Ariana doesn’t just capture Celine Dion’s physicality; if you close your eyes, the two’s vocals are nearly indistinguishable. "It's all coming back to me, but not to them because of the concussions, no?"
Finally, Grande brought down the house once and for all with her dead-on impression of The White Lotus actress Jennifer Coolidge . The sketch drops us into an ad for Maybelline where Coolidge ( Chloe Fineman ) stares into a mirror while getting ready for a date and chats with her reflection played by Ariana. The two go back and forth asking each other increasingly ridiculous questions, struggling to keep it together as the whole thing gets more absurd. “If you could meet anyone living or dead, who would it be?” asks Grande. “Living!” replies Fineman. And if two Jennifer Coolidges weren’t enough for you, don’t worry! When Fineman swings her mirror open, a third Jennifer Coolidge is waiting inside, this one played by SNL legend Dana Carvey !
