The Fan-Favorite Sweet Treat That's Finally Back on Trader Joe's Shelves

If we had to choose a pastry to eat for the rest of our lives, we’d most definitely go for a buttery, flaky, beautifully pillowy croissant . Not only is it wildly delicious and perfect on its own, but it’s also incredibly versatile and can become just about anything you can dream of. You’ve got hybrid croissants mixed with finger-licking good pumpkin cheesecake , croissants stuffed with cream cheese and pastry cream and even ones dipped in chocolate and topped with crushed pistachios. The options are truly limited only by your imagination.

Of course, if there is one ingredient that could make a croissant even better than it already is, it would have to be the deep, alluring taste of rich, velvety chocolate —and who are we to argue with a match made in heaven? Perhaps the only downside the labor-intensive pastry has is the fact that making your own from scratch is a relatively lengthy and mildly complex process. Beyond making the dough, letting it proof, properly laminating the dough, being careful not to overheat the layers and risking the structural integrity of your pastry, the process is not for the faint of heart. And getting chocolate involved can complicate the process even further.

But what if, instead, you could just pop over to Trader Joe’s and grab a box of ready-to-proof and bake Double Chocolate Croissants without ever having to lift a finger? Thankfully, TJ’s just brought back their fan-favorite pastry, and @traderjoesobessed is sharing all the details.

These delicious chocolate-laced riffs on the classic French pastry feature rich chocolate croissant dough filled with semi-sweet chocolate for a certifiable flavor explosion. All it takes to enjoy is an overnight proof at room temp, followed by a 25 minute bake in the oven and voila! It’s as simple that!

Best of all, you can snag a box of four for just $5.49, which works out to just about $1.37 per pastry. That’s about as close to homemade as you can get if you ask us. And if the comments are any indicator, you might want to get a move on.

“These are forever on my list,” said one enthused shopper. “My favorite croissant 🥐 by a landslide. Get it. Bake it. Love it,” agreed another. We couldn’t agree more. Just make sure to save a box or two for us, bestie!
