Bon Iver's Justin Vernon had a strong feeling about Taylor Swift the first time they met.

The "Skinny Love" artist recently sat down for an interview with the New Yorker published Wednesday, Oct. 16, during which he talked about his experience getting to know the "So High School" songstress.

Vernon, 43, collaborated with Swift on her indie folk albums folklore and evermore , but he didn't actually get to meet her in person until folklore was released in July 2020.

But when he finally did come face-to-face with the pop superstar, Vernon said he "wasn't starstruck."

"I was, like, ‘Wow, you’re somebody that I would have been very close friends with in high school,'" the "Creature Fear" singer recalled to the outlet, as he remembered thinking about Swift, "'You’re real and you’re here.'"

Speaking more about his first impression of Swift, 34, Vernon said, "To see what she’s been up to, the propulsion, the expansion...I don’t know, it’s just unlike anything anyone’s ever seen. And yet there she was, this person who made a lot of sense to me."

Swift found a way to stay extremely busy during the COVID-19 lockdowns in 2020, during which she crafted folklore and its sister album, evermore , which came out that December.

Vernon appeared on folklore 's "exile," as well as the title track from evermore , and he later got a shoutout from Swift during her acceptance speech at the Grammys the following year.

While accepting the award for Album of the Year, Swift thanked Vernon, while telling him, "I'm so excited to meet you someday."

Swift later made a surprise appearance at one of Vernon's concerts in London in 2020, performing "exile" live in person together for the first time.
