Simon Cowell Subtly Responds to X-Factor Alum Liam Payne’s Shocking Death

Though Simon Cowell has yet to speak out following the untimely death of Liam Payne , who made up one-fifth of the boy band One Direction formed by Cowell in 2010 on The X Factor , the producer has still responded to the terrible situation.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, the day after Payne's death, Cowell reportedly called off the Britain's Got Talent auditions scheduled in Blackpool that day.

A representative for the show's production company, Fremantle UK, said in a statement obtained by The Standard , "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, we have decided to postpone the Britain’s Got Talent auditions. Our thoughts are with Liam’s friends, family and all who loved him.”

Whether or not the rest of the auditions scheduled for this week will carry on as planned remains to be decided.

Applause Store, the platform that handles audience ticketing for the show, also issued a statement via X, writing, "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, BGT has decided to postpone today's auditions in Blackpool. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Payne died on Wednesday, Oct. 16 after falling from his third-floor hotel balcony . It's unclear at this time if he jumped or slipped, but the 911 transcripts released in the wake of his death revealed hotel staff called emergency services multiple times before he died. They requested help "urgently" and were concerned that his " life may be in danger" because he was locked "in a room with a balcony" and appeared to be impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol.

The investigation into his death is, presumably, still open.
