Target Is Selling a 'Perfect' $30 Hard Clutch Similar to a Vintage Chanel Bag 183x the Price

We’ve talked a lot about how unique purses not only add a lot to an outfit, but they also make your evening more enjoyable. Who doesn’t love a boost of confidence from a fun handbag ? One type of clutch that’s not seen too often is a minaudière, which is “a small, decorative handbag without handles or a strap” of French origin, Rewind Vintage reported. These small, hard-sided handbags are popping up more now, and even Target has a new one that looks a lot like a vintage Chanel clutch that’s 183 times the price.

Target’s Minaudiere Clutch by their in-house brand, A New Day, is $30 and has over 80 ratings and four stars. And even though Target’s purse doesn’t have the accented French spelling, it is a classic minaudière. As Fashionista reported, this evening bag was inspired by women in the 1920s and 30s who used metal cigarette cases as a place to hold all of their belongings on a night out, not just cigarettes. Since then these bags have been made out of metal, gold, precious stones and more. While Target’s Minaudiere Clutch has a shell made out of acrylic, it is in the same style: it has a hard outer shell and is pretty small; it measures 3.9 inches tall, 10 inches wide and 1.77 inches deep.

Minaudiere Clutch - A New Day , $30 at Target

There are no compartments or pockets inside or outside, but it has a magnetic closure and opens up like a book. It also has cloth sides so you don’t have to worry about things falling out of the sides when you open it. This clutch comes in three colors: cream, black and brown/tortoise print. The cream and black colors have a marbled look to them, with matching straps made of round beads. The tortoiseshell one has the tortoise print and then a chain strap with a similar color.

Again, A New Day’s Minaudiere Clutch has pretty good reviews, with one person writing that it was a “great little clutch.” They said that they “love it” and own it in two of the colors.

“It has a great vintage luxury look I just love," they said.

Another shopper said that it was a “perfect clutch” and they get so many compliments when they wear it out. And despite it being a smaller handbag, one person said that it held their iPhone 12 Pro Max, card wallet and keys; you know, the essentials.

"A must-buy!" they said. "Love, love, love! It is so cute… It does have some “weight” to it. It’s going to be perfect for errands & date nights."

Chanel Tortoise Logo Chain Mini Bag , $5,490 at Treasures of New York City

As we mentioned before, this Target clutch is similar to a vintage Chanel bag: the Chanel Tortoise Logo Chain Mini Bag . It’s not a current purse from Chanel, of course, so places like Treasures of New York City are reselling them; right now it costs $5,490 on their website. As Rewind Vintage reported, Chanel has been making unique and limited editions of minaudière clutches, including one that looked like their No. 5 perfume bottle in 2016.

Treasures of New York City says that it measures 5.5 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide and 2 inches deep. Boutique Patina , who is also selling one of these bags, notes that this is from 1994 and has a long strap to make it a crossbody. It also says that the purse and its strap are made with brown tortoise resin. There’s also a lambskin interior and it zips closed. It’s not fully a minaudière because only the front and back are hard, but it’s undeniable that Target’s tortoiseshell clutch looks a lot like this one. Minus the big “CC” Chanel logo on the front, of course.

So if you’re in the market for a unique hard-sided purse that might add that extra oomph you’ve been looking for, Target’s Minaudiere Clutch is worth checking out.
