A black cat named Mojo left in 2020 for a walk and never returned home until four years later.

According to the news station, Alison Woodrow had mourned the loss of her cat, and was incredibly delighted when he turned up!

Alison adopted Mojo, a beautiful black cat , from the rescue center when he was four weeks old, but when he was two years old, the unthinkable happened.

“He went for a walk in 2020 one summer evening," Alison told BBC News, "We were shouting for Mojo around the block and couldn’t find him.”

As time passed and there was no sign or sighting of Mojo, she had started to grieve his loss and gave up hope of his safe return.

With that, you could probably imagine her surprise when she received a veterinarian clinic call informing her they found Mojo.

Mojo was microchipped, so when he was found and taken to the shelter, they were able to get into contact with Alison.

“I rushed in my car with my cat carrier went and it was him," she explained.

He had been gone for four years, double the time he had lived with her, so it took some time for things to settle.

“When I brought him home, he didn’t know where he was," she told the BBC. “I had him for two years, and he was missing for four years. It’s all a bit weird and bit of an adjustment.”

The interesting thing, other than Mojo was found safe and healthy, is that where he was found wasn't too far away from home. He was found only a seven-minute walk away from his house with Alison.

"He looks really well fed, and he is glossy," Alison said of Mojo now that he's home. "He has been much loved so it’s nice to know," she added.

What Should You Do If Your Cat Goes Missing?

No one wants to think about what might happen if their cat goes missing, but it's a reality that some cat parents have to face. And knowing what to do when your cat goes missing can make a big difference in if they'll find their way home.

According to Cats Protection , there are five things you should do at first if your cat has gone missing.

    1. Shake a box of their favorite treats to get them to come back
    2. Leave their favorite toy in the yard near your home
    3. Put a blanket they use on a regular near the front door

    4. Call them by name at night

    5. Leave some water and food out for them

"If your cat hasn’t returned by the time dinner time comes around, you might be worried that your cat is missing," the site acknowledges.

"Try not to panic. Cats can disappear for days at a time and return with no trouble, looking perfectly healthy. While you might be worried, they’re likely to stroll in and wonder what all the fuss is about. If they haven’t yet returned, give them a few hours before you make a plan of action."
