A senior Yorkie has learned how to swim for the first time, and watching how well they've taken to it wins the internet for the cutest video.

On July 23, 2024, TikTok user Ducky the Yorkie (@duckytheyorkie) shared a video of two little dogs trying their hand at swimming with help, of course. It's the cutest video. Take a look!

"My senior dog learns how to swim for the first time," the text on the video reads. And in the clip, there are two small and adorable little Yorkies in the water, wearing life jackets that their person is holding on to, and the little dogs are kicking their feet and swimming!

The camera goes underwater for a moment, and we get a cute look at the two small dogs and how fast and amazingly they're working their legs to stay afloat (while their person holds them steady). They're doing the thing, and it's so cute!

"The way he just glides in the water," the video's caption reads.

In the comments, people were happy to cheer on Ducky the Yorkie and his brother, Katsu the Yorkie.

One person wrote, "Ohhh my goodness."

Another shared, "zooz floatinā€™ always makes me laugh hehe."

    Someone else added, "Cuteness overload!"

Another wrote, "A regular Olympic swimmer."

One TikTok viewer shared, "My heart just melted on the floor."

Is Swimming Good for Senior Dogs?

Many of us have heard already that swimming can be great for sore joints and a great way to exercise if you're injured already. Well, the same is true for senior dogs, especially if they suffer from joint issues like arthritis, which can be common for older pups, according to the American Kennel Club .

ā€œJust like for people, swimming is a low-impact form of exercise that can be very useful to pets,ā€Ā Dr. Stephanie Liff, a practicing veterinarian and owner of Pure Paws Veterinary Care in Brooklyn, N.Y. told the American Kennel Club.

ā€œIt can help with healing and rehabilitation post-orthopedic or neurological surgery, or can be used for weight loss in pets that have arthritis or other limitations that make exercise difficult.ā€

The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals reiterates this, also saying that swimming is a greater exercise for senior dogs.

"If your dog enjoys being in water, swimming can be a great exercise as it doesnā€™t put as much strain on sore joints," they note, adding a few important reminders which include:

    • drying them off as soon as they're out of the water
    • only let them swim when it's safe

    • be careful where they're swimming, and ensure they can get in and out safely

    • life jackets are a good idea
