Tropical Storm Debby has dumped more than a foot of rain over parts of the south including Georgia and South Carolina resulting in flooding and falling trees. Six people have died including a Florida boater who tried to ride out the storm with his small dog.

Not only have humans been impacted by this horrible weather event, but animals too, including pets and animals in shelters. Whenever horrific disasters like this happen there's always ways that we can help shelter pets and the people who work to protect them.

Numerous shelters across the affected areas have had Clear The Shelter Events , in hopes of getting many, if not all, animals adopted in preparation of the storm. many shelters are still seeking fosters for animals and donations of money and other supplies.

The Berkeley Animal Center in South Carolina shelter put out an emergency call on Sunday asking for fosters so the animals could ride out the storm in a home.

By 12:30 p.m., all cats and kittens found a home and at 6:18 p.m. it was announced the shelter was cleared.

"Our call for help was answered, and we will be forever thankful to you. Your dedication to help us will never be forgotten. Please give our babies all the love while you keep them safe during the storm." staff wrote.

Renegade Paws Rescue in Savannah is asking for help from the community with items such as dirt and gravel for their backyard area, which was hit with majority of the flooding. You can contact them here . WTOC reported “We could definitely use obviously more cleaning supplies , mildew and mold protecting bleach products, the floor dryers, any dehumidifiers would be great to have just to help get all this moisture and humidity out."

The Bissell pet Foundation is accepting donations here to help animals impacted by the storm.

24 dogs were sent from South Carolina to Massachusetts. The new arrivals range in age from five-months to 3 years old and include terriers, Labrador retrievers, great Pyrenees, and Belgian Malinois. These dogs will be available for adoption soon and you can learn more here .

Please consider helping where you can to all the shelters and the animals impacted by the storms.
