Army of Tuxedo Cats Demanding to Be Fed at 1 a.m. Is Too Relatable to Cat Parents

Cats have a lot of wonderful, positive qualities, but there's one thing you should be prepared for before you bring one into your family: They can be a little (okay, a lot) demanding. They want what they want when they want it, and many are not willing to budge on that... regardless of what their person's schedule might allow for. And if your cat is anything like my two, there's a good chance that they're also very loud about those demands.

If anyone understands what that's like, it's the humans who shared the video below on TikTok. These cats are ready to eat, and they don't care if it's the middle of the night!

In this video from @joinrosiesarmy , we can see an actual army of Tuxedo Cats who have assembled in the kitchen to demand that their humans feed them... at 1:45 in the morning, of course. Cage The Elephant's song. "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" is the perfect audio for this clip!

It seems like everywhere you look, there are kitties waiting to be fed, looking expectantly at their person. By my count, there are four on the counter and at least one on the floor, gathered near their bowl.

What's even more hilarious is that this isn't even all of her cats! In the comments, the OP wrote, "The funny thing is there were more scattered around the room…just not close enough to get the best video," adding in another comment that she has eight Tuxedo Cats in total. OMG — I bet they never let her rest!

For some reason, it's always cats who meow in the middle of the night, demanding food or attention at the wrong time of the day... even when their bellies should, in theory, be full. But why?

Why Do Cats Want to Eat in the Middle of the Night?

It's actually quite common for cats not to sleep through the night. While some will beg for food, others will keep their human roommates awake by running through the house, meowing, or doing some combination of the two.

According to WebMD, this is because cats are "crepuscular" — a word that means they hunt at night and in the early morning hours, so the hours when we're typically asleep also happen to be some of their most active.

There are a few things you can do to train them to sleep through the night, like wearing them out with toys and play time before bed, or feeding them right before you head to bed for the evening, so their bellies are full (and being full just might inspire them to take a long nap).

And remember that if you use an automatic or gravity feeder that if they have access to food during the night, they will wake up to eat it, so you may want to consider changing the schedule!

Cats don't always make the best roomates, but they sure are cute enough to make up for it.
