Rescue Dog and Raccoon Are the Picture of Innocence After Hot Dog Heist

Even the most well-behaved dog has been known to get into trouble when tempted with a tasty treat. Overwhelmed with emotion, they cannot control the urge to take a bite of their favorite food. If they also have a partner who wears a mask and has skilled paws, it’s the perfect recipe for a heist.

While this instinctive thievery might be understandable, the look of innocence after committing the crime is another story altogether. Watch this daring duo play it cool in a video shared on July 18:

These two are as calm as can be. They’re trying to convince Mom that everything is fine. They’re simply enjoying the warm summer breeze and listening to the birds chirping. It’s not like they took a pack of hotdogs from the fridge and hid it behind a pillow to cover up the deed. Or did they? They most certainly did, as their mom shows us! While Diddles (@ diddlesdoes ), the raccoon, is allowed to go into the refrigerator to grab a bite when he’s in the mood, Violet doesn’t have the same privilege. Mom explains that while she’s typically a well-behaved pup, sometimes, when Diddles can’t close the door fast enough, Violet also gets a snack. In her defense, those hotdogs are pretty irresistible, and if your sibling is getting a treat, it’s only fair you should get one, too. The fact that they were both so happy to conceal their crime like nothing ever happened is genuinely priceless! And it just goes to show how intelligent our animals can be.

Can Raccoons Be Kept as Pets?

Raccoons are often protected wild animals , and most states do not allow them to be kept as pets . However, individuals with wildlife rehabilitation licenses can sometimes keep these charming creatures in their homes if they cannot be returned to the wild. For example, Diddles is a permitted rescue. Despite their cute and funny personalities, raccoons have complex needs that can be difficult to meet in a domestic setting, and it takes an expert to give them the care they require.

People were quick to defend this dynamic duo. Viewer @snorkadoodlers responded, “Your honor, my clients are innocent. We asked that this case be dismissed immediately and that they be awarded two extra packs of hotdogs for emotional suffering.” Ha! Viewer @gentilesamantha remarked, “Those were planted!! They are innocent!” It’s a tough case to prove. Another person asked if they ate any hotdogs, and their mom answered they had eaten at least half the package. What a score!

Surprisingly, this doesn’t happen more often with a raccoon who has permission to open the fridge. It shows how well-mannered they are, even if they occasionally have a moment of weakness.
