One of the most rewarding feelings in life is rescuing a stray and giving them the life they deserve. Madeline the cat knows this to her core. Though once a stray, she's now sailing the high seas with her new family.

On August 2, 2024, Digital Creator Megan ( @moxtheboat ) posted the celebratory Instagram clip that shows Madeline's life as a boat cat for a whole year—and it's so heartwarming. Watch her journey below!

"Boat cat life for one year now," the caption reads. "We’re celebrating Madeline’s Gotcha Day! In one year, she’s visited three countries, explored remote beaches, amassed a hoard of admirers, and completely stole our hearts (well, that happened the first day…)"

The video details what life's been like in this kitty's first year as an adopted stray from Greece, and it's quite the adventure. Though Madeline began as a tiny kitty wearing a safety harness in a safety-proofed boat, she morphed into a silly, fun-loving goofball who wears a beer wrapper on her head to play.

Megan added that the curious kitty only fell in the water once as she tried to get an ice cream cup from the dinghy. An hour later, she was quickly rescued and back to normal playtime. It's never a dull day with a kitten!

The video concludes with the biggest lesson of all, which is that the 365 days with Madeline feel like a lifetime of love, laughter, and amusement," and Madeline's followers can tell.

"I love her helmet!! So cute!!" one person said. "Happy gotcha, gorgeous lucky girl," another added. "Thank you for giving her a beautiful life!!" another wrote.

Madeline hit the jackpot with this family, and she makes the best little sailor!

    Adopting a Stray Cat

Winning the trust of a stray cat isn't always easy, but once you do, they're yours for life. PetMD advises if you decide to take a stray cat in to adopt , there are a few considerations to remember. First, take them to the vet to see if they're microchipped. If they're not, post photos online in different community forums to be sure you're not taking someone else's cat.

If everything checks out and no one has claimed the fur baby, a thorough checkup is in order. That means vaccinations and flea and tick medicine. Also, if they're not spayed or neutered, schedule that as well. Basically, do all the things to make sure they're healthy.

Depending on how the cat lived before meeting you, it may take time for them to adjust to being an inside-only cat, so be patient. Earn their trust with food, treats, and a safe space that has everything they need (litter, etc).

If they're determined to stay an outside cat, provide them with the basics: shelter with a cool space during hot months, food, and water. It's all a process but worth it in the end—just ask Madeline's parents!
