Dogs make great friends. They don’t just provide companionship for humans; they often bond with other creatures, large and small. Once these connections are made, they last forever.

One sweet fox and her canine pal are a perfect example of the unbreakable bonds that can form between different species. Their connection, though it may not have started as a friendship, has grown into something truly remarkable.

Witness their loving relationship unfold in this heartwarming video shared on July 23:

I could watch these two play with each other all day. It’s clear they make each other so happy, and their smiles are filled with joy. However, Howie and Fig’s (@ juniperfoxx ) mom explained that their friendship did not start this way. In fact, when Howie began playing with Fig, he was rough and frightened him. But animals have a way of working things out, and this adorable dog pursued this darling Red Fox. Luckily, Fig enjoyed this, and it wasn’t long before they were friends. Now, they can be seen playing, fighting, and pawing at each other for attention, with their tails wagging happily the whole time. They are a bonded pair with years of happiness ahead, like their fox and canine siblings , Juniper and Moose. What a perfect way for rescued animals to spend their days!

Is It Common for Foxes and Dogs To Become Friends?

While it may be uncommon for a wild fox and a dog to become friends, given the right circumstances, it is possible. It is essential to remember that foxes are wild animals with distinct needs that differ from those of domestic dogs. Therefore, such relationships require careful management and a thorough understanding of each creature. Hence, keeping a wild fox as a pet is prohibited in most areas unless you are a licensed rehabilitator, like Howie and Fig’s mom. As she pointed out in the comments, while they are cuddly, foxes cannot be fully housebroken and have a strong, musty scent, which is another reason they’re generally not domesticated house pets.

People loved watching this friendship bloom. Viewer @stephmyrealtor responded, “I love that you taught Howie how to be the friend Fig needed.” It’s a beautiful thing to see. One person pointed out, “Fig is teaching him about boundaries. He’s also safe to express those boundaries without fearing losing Howie’s friendship. They have a healthy relationship, I’d say. Better than most humans.” There is so much we can learn from animals. Another person remarked, “When an extrovert adopts an introverted friend, lol.” That seems to be with the cases here, and it’s the perfect combination.

These beautiful pups will undoubtedly be friends for life. Thankfully, their mom allows us to share the joy of watching them grow together.
