Golden Retriever's Precious Bond with Pet Rabbit Is Such a Gift

In many cases, rabbits and dogs don't usually mix (and anyone who, like me, has seen their dog chase after a rabbit they spotted in the backyard can confirm this). For a lot of dog breeds, that hunting instinct takes over. For others, it's simply curiosity... but that kind of excited fascination coming from such a large animal is enough to make any rabbit go sprinting off to safety. These two species aren't commonly friends, but it does happen.

It helps a lot when both animals in question are pets, like the friends in this TikTok video are. They might not have much in common as a dog and a rabbit, but that certainly hasn't stopped them from forming a truly beautiful friendship.

In this video recently shared by @dexterandleotherabbit , we get to see the sweet friendship that has grown between Dexter, a Golden Retriever, and Leo, a rabbit. It's not a likely bond by any means, but it's one that formed anyway, and at this pace, I think it's safe to say that these two are inseparable.

The video chronicles their journey as pals, starting with Leo's first night home when Dexter simply had to sit outside Leo's crate to observe him at a safe distance. Even then, he couldn't get enough ā€” and their love only grew when they were finally allowed to be out freely in their house together.

It looks like these two spend most of their time together cuddling (anyone else dying of cuteness right now?), and it took no time at all for them to love each other. So sweet!

While their mom does point out that not all dogs can be trusted around rabbits, in this case, it seems like everything is going really well so far!

    Leo & Dexter's Story

These animals' mom has been documenting their life together from the very first day, when she went to pick up her rabbit and bring him home last December.

The first couple of days, Leo seemed a bit nervous, but they kept sniffing each other and checking each other out... and by day three, they were fast friends. It's seriously impressive how quickly this happened!

Since then, they've been total buds, though I think sometimes Dexter is having trouble matching Leo's hoppy energy. In this video, you can see he's trying to chill and watch some TV, but his little brother simply isn't having it. It's party time!

I can't wait to see more of Leo and Dexter. These two are just way too cute!
