It's a magical moment the first time a dog shows trust in you. Foster dogs may take take a little longer to adjust if the shelter life was too much for them. Twinkle the Chihuahua mix was terrified to be in his new foster home—until now, and the beautiful moment was caught on camera.
In an August 12, 2024 TikTok video shared by Isabel Klee ( @simonsits ), Twinkle politely asks for love for the first time and it's truly an incredible moment of trust. Watch him open his heart and try not to cry!
The video, captioned, "BEST. DAY. EVER!!!" shows Klee's "behavioral foster initiating contact "for the first time." A timid Twinkle gently inches toward his foster mom, allowing her to pet him a little more than she ever had before. After she gains his trust, he takes an even bigger step and crawls into her lap, where she's able to shower him with all the love and pets he wants.
"You're so brave," she tells him. "Good boy."
She explains she's only been allowed to pet Twinkles' head "a little bit" for the past few days, so this emotional moment is really something special. Of the near 45,000 likes, hundreds of people weighed in on this foster mom's patience and compassion with her foster pup.
"This is awesome. I wonder how many dogs are quickly labeled as aggressive or hopeless without considering the environment, circumstances, and experiences. Thank you for the work you do," one person remarked.
"You are healing the world one dog at a time," another added.
"He just needed someone to give him space, allow him to process things, and wait for him to do things on his own time. You saw him for what he was inside, not for what his circumstances were making him be," another said.
Thanks to fosters like Klee, dogs like Twinkle can feel the love they deserve.
