Mom Gives Mastiff a 'Pep Talk' While He's Missing His Dad & His Face Says It All

Dogs all have a favorite person, and as much as you might want it to be you, it usually isn't. Truly, it feels like the moment you think about wanting to be their favorite person, they decide right then and there that it absolutely will not be you.

Even still, life goes on, and we love our dogs. They love us too, just not as much as their person of choice. It's because we love them that we do things like give them pep talks when their favorite person is gone, just like this dog mom did recently. Poor thing was all torn up:

Brindle Bear the Mastiff may be a big boy, but with that comes a big heart! A heart that breaks when his dad isn't around, because he's obviously his favorite. Mom is kind for consoling him!

Bear is a big dog: he's full-grown, can block doors with his big body, and will pin his humans down for hours to take a nap with them. Napping passes the time faster so he doesn't wait as long for dad to get home, obviously! But if one gigantic dog that you could probably ride into battle wasn't enough, they also have a Great Dane!

Bear does love his mom. He enjoys stalking her for snacks (and throwing tantrums when he doesn't get any), taking naps with her, and settles for playing with her until the apple of his eye comes home. When he gets a little too sad about dad being gone, she even cheers him up with little pep talks! They really work!

How to be Your Dog's Favorite Person

Step one: don't force it. It's a little hard, and I know that first-hand: I got a puppy recently, and I tried real hard to be her favorite. I did everything I could, to no avail - my sister is her favorite. My sister has never fed her even a morsel of food! Not one!

No matter how hard you try, there's always a chance it won't work. However, there are definitely a few things you can do to increase your odds, like:

    1. Doing all of their training and handing them their treats.
    2. Feeding them yourself every day instead of delegating.
    3. Taking advantage of their nap cues and snuggling them for naps.
    4. Playing with them as often as you can.

The big thing is that you want to associate yourself with their basic needs, not somebody else. If they know you're the one who meets those needs, they're more likely to seek you out, and the more time you spend together, the more likely it is that you'll be their favorite. Good luck!
