Farmer Finding Lamb in Random Hole Proves How Mischievous They Are

When you're a dog parent, trying to keep track of your dog and keep them out of trouble is pretty much impossible. They will always find a way to do something they shouldn't, and we have to mitigate that.

Apparently, farmers have the same problem on a much larger scale. When a big farm animal gets in trouble, getting them out of it can be tough. Recently, one farmer showed off how his lambs were starting early and he had to play rescuer:

Lucky Little Lamb!! We were lucky to have saved this little guy who had found himself in a spot of trouble - whoops! Lambing is always a busy time of year for us, checking the girls daily to make sure them and their newborn lambs are doing well 🙂 Sometimes the lamb’s own curiosity get them into a bit of a pickle. Luckily our girls are great mothers and help to alert us if there is anything that we need to help them with 👌😊 #fernglenfarm #nzfarming #nz #sheepmilk #spcacertified #farmlife #rural

Fernglen Farms has the cutest lambs around. They're troublemakers, but they fit right in there!

Don't worry about this little guy: in the caption, the farmer states that the baby is okay, and that this is a common occurrence. If something bad is happening, the mother sheep in the group are quick to alert the farmers before it gets out of hand. This is also not the first time a lamb has fallen into that very spot!

The best part of this video is how offended the lamb looks: when the farmer pulls him out, he backs up immediately and looks at him as if he's upset that he bothered to pull him out. Maybe there was a secret Cool Lambs Club meeting there that he got yanked from!

    Sheep are Naturally Very Curious

When we see sheep, they're usually just standing around, and it's hard to imagine that they're really interested in anything other than eating grass and growing sweaters. That's actually not the case, though: most of the time, sheep stop what they're doing when humans come near. They're curious, but they're also very wary of others.

Sheep, just like the Border Collies that often herd them, are intelligent animals. They communicate with each other and seek out enrichment in their habitats, which is where curiosity comes in. If the sheep isn't getting all it needs from the things you provide, they'll seek it out elsewhere. Exploring is enrichment, and it's how lambs fall into holes!

To prevent your sheep from getting bored, there are actually lots of ways you can keep them happy. They're things like:

    1. Having more than one sheep so they can keep each other company.
    2. Offering them a variety of treats and new foods in addition to basic feed.
    3. Providing toys like hay filled balls, actual balls, and treat puzzles.
    4. Changing up the layout every once in a while for a nice change of scenery.

Just like with indoor pets, though, nothing is fool-proof. Just like you buy a new toy for your cat and all she wants to do is sit in the box it came in, you might find that your sheep prefer to jump into random holes they find. All you can do is keep an eye out!
