A German Shepherd mother is known for her exceptional nurturing instincts and protective nature when caring for her puppies. Attentive and vigilant from the moment they are born, she ensures each one is safe, well-fed, and clean. She plays an essential role in their socialization as they grow, teaching them boundaries and how to play.

However, just like with human children, it takes a lot of effort and energy. It’s a 24-hour day responsibility with no time off. This is especially challenging when these many siblings reach their rambunctious stage.

Fortunately, this amazing mom knows how to take it in stride, as we can see in this video shared on August 7th.

Although I adore puppies and never pass up a chance to play with them, having one is exhausting. So, it’s hard to imagine how much energy it takes to be in charge of an entire litter. This is especially true for new mom Maze (@ marvelousmisha_gsd ), whose labor and delivery were not easy. But her instincts were stronger than her challenges, and after recovering from her surgery and gastric distress, she even nursed them for a full eight weeks. Now that her beautiful offspring have reached their playful age, she enjoys spending time with them. Even if that means these little rascals are getting stronger and bolder by the minute. Can you imagine all those puppy teeth? It’s not a job for the faint of heart, that’s for sure.

How Long Do Puppies Need to Stay With Their Mom?

Most experts agree puppies should spend at least eight weeks with their mother. However, some suggest keeping puppies with their littermates for 8 to 12 weeks to help dogs develop better socialization skills. When puppies are weaned too early from their mothers , they may have potential behavior problems in the future, such as increased reactivity and decreased bite inhibition. They may also experience health issues, with many suffering from low weight problems and increased illnesses up to the age of six months.

People were impressed by this German Shepherd’s nurturing abilities. One person responded, “You provided the help, the love, and the time she needed to be supermom.” No doubt. Viewer @j.p_that_guy remarked, “Maze is no enigma to me! She loves hard, plays hard, and protects fearlessly.” She’s a wonderful girl! Viewer @agyamada pointed out, “So awesome! You are definitely going to miss their entertainment.” It must be so difficult to say goodbye.

Thankfully, Maze and her beautiful litter of puppies are thriving. It won't be long before they are each bringing joy to families of their own.
