Golden Retriever Has the Sweetest Way of Telling Mom He's Ready for Bed

Some dogs are chill and go with the flow, but that's not my dog at all. She knows her daily routine, and if something isn't happening when it's supposed to happen, she's going to want to know the reason. Whether it's a meal that's late or someone isn't home from work when they're supposed to be, she will make it clear that something is amiss — like we didn't already know! I can't blame her for being so particular, though; she can't speak English, so how else is she supposed to know what's going on from day to day if she can't rely on the schedule?!

Though everyone's dog is obviously different, most dogs have found way to let us know when it's time for the next part of the day to begin... especially when they have some motivation to follow the schedule like the adorable dog in the TikTok video below.

In this sweet footage shared by @whata_bout_winston , this dog mom shared what happened when bedtime finally rolls around her house... and how her Golden Retriever , Winston, reminds her that it's time for the two of them to turn in for the night.

"Every single night without fail, my dog tells me when he is ready for bed, and this is what that looks like," she says in the video before showing Winston standing on the stairs, waiting for her to join him.

As soon as she starts heading upstairs, he does too, making sure that he pushes his way into the room as soon as she opens the bedroom door and gets all cozy in bed before his mom even has the chance to pull the covers back. Once he's settled (and his fan is on, of course), he looks like the happiest camper!

I certainly can't blame Winston for being ready for bed. A long day being an adorable dog can really take it out of you!

How Do Dogs Know It's Bedtime?

Since dogs have no way of telling time, how do they figure out when bedtime is?

It really comes down to the daily routine you establish for them, and they use different things they do every day — like taking walks and eating meals — to mark the passage of time.

Just like humans, their circadian rhythms also play a role in their ability to tell time, as Rover points out. They get the bulk of their sleep at night, but are still able to take multiple naps during the day without ruining their night sleep (wish that was me, honestly).

If you're off schedule by an hour or so, your dog probably won't mind, but beyond that, some might start getting a little impatient. Don't let them down!
