Malinois, man. They're so controversial, and for good reason - it takes a very experienced, very dedicated dog parent to have one. However, as controversial as they may be, everyone seems to be able to agree they're also very impressive. Watching a Malinois work is nothing short of amazing.

Watching a Malinois engage in normal dog behavior is less common, but it definitely still happens. Recently, when a family shared a video of their Malinois trying to stealthily chomp at their dinner, everyone went nuts:

Michelle and Victor are perfect for each other. Michelle keeps him under control, and he challenges her by bringing out his worst possible manners at the dinner table. It's perfect in every way.

Victor is just the apple of his mother's eye, and it's glaringly apparent. He is not like your typical Malinois: yes, he is trained (and well, at that), but he is the silliest goose in the pond. Victor has earned his mom almost 30,000 TikTok followers by being the least-threatening Malinois most of us have ever seen. He loves his mom, and he loves to eat, and he's just a dog. He also lives in Belgium, which I just think is super cool!

Victor's TikTok presence is an interesting one: the internet has been drilling it into our heads for years that these dogs are dangerous. TikTok would mostly have you believing that they're dogs you approach in a full-suit of armor and nothing less. In reality, though, Victor shows us that Malinois are dogs who love everything other dogs love. They just need more structure.

Where Does a Malinois Fit Best?

Malinois are legitimately incredible dogs, and it's a shame that they have such a bad reputation - when they work, they really work. They just need to be in homes and environments that work for them. Scenarios and places like:

    1. Farms (they're excellent herders !).
    2. Homes with a big backyard.
    3. Police offices where they can get out for lots of field work.
    4. Professional service dog environments (busy stores, outdoors, etc).
    5. Anywhere that requires running/jogging/hiking.

Long story short, Malinois work best with people who have something to do. While every dog has moments where they'll love being a couch potato, a Malinois will be equally content when you take them on a five-mile hike, then to an obedience class, and then out to a field to throw a ball. And, of course, when you're feeding them spaghetti...
