With the summer beginning to wind down, many of us are trying to get in as many of our favorite warm weather activities as we can, and for many people, that includes spending time in the water. Whether we're talking about a pool, a beach, or a lake, it's the best way to have fun and keep cool... and if you have dogs, there's a very good chance they're going to have a blast in the water, too, so everybody wins.

Regardless of how common it is for dogs to love playing and hanging out in water, I don't know if I've ever seen any who are more about living the lake life than the ones in this TikTok video... even if their mom might think they're enjoying it a little too much!

On Thursday, August 15, @__..twigs..__ shared footage of her Dachshund pup and Basset Hound out on the lake in Michigan, and these dogs are not shy about the water or being on a kayak. As long as they've got their life jackets, they're good to go.

Regardless of how hard their mom was trying to get them to stay on the kayak, they simply wouldn't listen — especially that sweet Dachshund. Is she the most graceful animal I've ever seen? No, since she did keep missing when she tried to jump from one kayak to another. But she kept trying! Even when the Basset just wanted to chill, she simply could not accept it.

However, the Basset was much happier when she got to eat noodles by the water, not that anyone could blame her. That's pretty much the perfect day.

    Going Kayaking with Dogs

If this looks like a fun activity to do with your own water-loving dogs, there are a few important things you probably want to know first.

You'll want to know how your dog behaves around water and if they even like it, as well as whether or not they are able to swim. You'll also want to purchase a life jacket and see how well they tolerate it — if it's a no, then water sports with dogs has to be a no, too, as much of a bummer as it is.

As Rover points out, it's also important to know how well your dog follows commands and to practice any you'll need to use in the water before you head out on the kayak — and many parents like to keep their dogs leashed on a boat or kayak so they can't jump off and swim away!

Practice makes perfect, so the more time you spend around water with your pup, the better they'll become at it. Maybe next year will be their year?
