A Labrador came up with the funniest plan to trap the family cat and not only is it really clever, it's downright genius.

On August 14, 2024, TikTok user Ruby the Labrador (@ruby_thelabrador) wanted to play a little prank on the family cat, so she devised an elaborate plan, which worked. Take a look!

The hilarious plan started after Ruby's dad taught her a new trick. "Teaching my dog to use the laundry bin thinking nothing could go wrong," the text on the video reads .

And that's what Ruby's dad is doing -- he's showing her how you pick clothing up off the floor and put it into the open laundry bin, and then you shut the lid.

Ruby was a natural at the laundry bin and picked it up quickly. But when her dad left the room, she came up with another use for the container.

And we get to see each step of Ruby's plan play out, and it's really smart.

Ruby walks over to the family cat playing on their cat tree and asks the cat to give her the toy. The cat pushes the toy off the tree, and Ruby immediately picks it up with her mouth and puts it into the laundry bin. She then leaves the room.

Of course, the family cat saw what Ruby did and went over to the bin to retrieve their toy. The cat jumped into the bin to reach the toy, and immediately, Ruby came back into the room and closed the lid on the laundry bin with the family cat inside.

And the cheeky Labrador with the clever plan to "trap" the cat actually worked.

"How the Dog/Cat war began...," the video's caption joked. And in the comments, people had a lot to say.

One wrote, "I love how he skedaddled after closing the lid."

Another, "That was so calculated I'm crying."

Someone else added, "This was so planned by the doggo!!"

Another joked, "Did I just watch a cartoon??

How to Help Cats and Dogs Get Along

We're sure Ruby played this funny prank on her sibling cat just for fun, and they do seem to get along pretty well. We doubt the cat would have given Ruby the toy if there wasn't that love there.

But if you have a cat and a dog who don't get along or you plan to have both at some point, there are some tips you can follow that may help their bond develop into a strong one.

According to the American Kennel Club , the best starting plan is to not rush things and to ensure that each pet has a safe space that the other pet does not have access to.

"Give each pet their own safe space, such as a bedroom, and alternate who is out in the rest of the house until it’s time to make the introductions," they write.

"Before the first meeting, build positive associations with the other animal. Place items that smell like the cat, like toys or a blanket, in the dog’s area."

From there, it's just taking things slow and watching your cat and your dog's body language. If there are struggles, it's a good idea to check in with your vet who may be able to give you some more tailored advice for your family.
