Dogs are pack animals, so many instinctively know how to protect the most vulnerable new family members. They stay close by, listening for unusual sounds, smells, or tiny cries. Many have been credited with saving lives by alerting parents when they detect stress or illness.
Even when all is well, they don't take a break from their duties. Although this sweet deaf Pit Bull may not hear, she's fine-tuned her other senses to pay close attention to her human siblings' every move.

What a good girl! Faith (@ afdogofmn ) may have been heading upstairs, but that didn't stop her from noticing her newborn sister had moved. Even though mom might have been sitting beside her, she stopped and quickly returned, bouncing onto the couch to get her attention and ensuring she understood this tiny infant was awake. LOL! She's the best nanny ! As this little girl grows up, she won't be able to do anything without her big sister noticing, and that could come in handy when she's a teen.

Helping Dogs Adjust to Newborns
Most dogs welcome a newborn baby as part of the family, but significant changes can still be disruptive. To help make the transition smoother, the Coxwell Animal Clinic recommends preparing dogs for the new family member before they arrive. This can involve playing recordings of a baby crying and allowing the dogs to sniff and see baby items such as toys, clothing, and lotions. It's also suggested that the dogs' daily routines be adjusted before the baby is born to help them get used to these upcoming changes. After the baby arrives, bringing home a blanket or a piece of clothing with the baby's smell can also help familiarize the dogs with the new family member before they meet. No matter how well-behaved a dog may be, any interactions between a newborn should always be supervised.

It won't be long before this baby and her older sister share toys and cuddle together. Dogs really are a child's first best friend, and it's a role they take seriously.
