Dogs like Golden Retrievers and Labradors are famous for their love of swimming. Their affinity for water and physical attributes that make this sport easier have been bred into their DNA. However, not all dogs have the genetics that make them natural swimmers.

For instance, French Bulldogs are well-known for having difficulty keeping their heads afloat, and other breeds don't enjoy getting wet. However, like people, every dog is an individual. A perfect example is this little Italian Greyhound who enjoys taking a dip, even though it's not typical for her breed.

Check out this tiny girl’s immense love for the water in this video shared on August 10:

What a big spirit inside this small dog! Italian Greyhounds aren't typically known for their affinity for water, but she's a big fan of this summer activity. Perhaps it’s because her dads chose the name Kala (@ tikatheiggy ), which also means fish in Finnish. They explain that while she was not initially sure about going in, she showed interest each time she went to the lake. They got her a life vest to ensure her safety , which encouraged her to take the plunge. Now, she bounces to the dock so passionately that she almost takes flight. She’s brave enough to use the ladder, even though it doesn’t help her make the most graceful handstand entry. She's so adorable doing it! Now that she’s got the hang of it, they can’t keep her out.

    Can Italian Greyhounds Swim?

Italian Greyhounds can swim, but most don’t like water. Some parents say their dogs dislike being wet so much that they even won’t walk through puddles. Because of their low body fat, these small dogs get cold fast, so it’s recommended that they spend limited time in it, even if they enjoy taking a dip.

Pet parents were excited to see this dog's love for water sports. Viewer @iggy_tuna revealed, “Tuna loves to swim too!! She jumps into our pool by herself! Guess it’s in the name.” Maybe that’s the key for an Italian Greyhound to love water. Viewer @spellikan.whippets remarked, “She must have been sick that day in Iggy school where they were taught the subject of swim hating.” Ha! That could be. Viewer @jibbala reported, “I have had four Iggies, and all of them feel that water will murder them.” That seems to be the normal feeling for this breed. However, there are always exceptions, like Kala and Tuna.

With a dog who gets cold easily, it's not difficult to understand why she enjoys warm-weather activities. Hopefully, she’ll get a few more nice swims before the cool fall air arrives.
