As far as I am concerned, there's only one downside to having pets in your home: The messes they leave behind. And along with those messes, unfortunately, come smells. I adore my cats, but I will be the first to admit they're the biggest offenders. While my dog does all of her business outside, that's not the case for my two cats. Somehow, as hard as you try to stay on top of the litter box, there are odors that are inevitably going to find their way into the rest of your home. Of course, my cats are always worth the extra work but I do wish my house could always smell the same as it would if they didn't live here!

If you're not a fan of the litter box odors either, you are going to want to check out this TikTok video. There's a way to help reduce (if not eliminate) those smells, and it's a lot easier than you might think.

As cat mom @big_al1112 explained in this TikTok video she shared on Tuesday, August 13, using a product like Damp Rid to absorb moisture in the air in the same room where you keep your litter boxes, it will also absorb some of the odors, leaving your house with a fresher smell.

And just to prove how much it's working, she showed her bottle after a month of use, and the water in there is brown — it's pretty gross, but that just means that it's been doing its job.

If you're interested in giving it a shot, Damp Rid can be found at most grocery and big box stores (including Dollar Tree), or on Amazon here . They come in all different sizes and can be found for under $10.

Other cat parents confirmed that this hack works in the comments, so it might be worth a shot!

How to Eliminate Litter Box Smells From Your Home

Of course, the best way to keep smells to a minimum is by cleaning out your litter boxes every day, but beyond that, there are a few different tricks you can try.

You want to make sure you not only empty the litter box regularly and replace the litter, but that you're cleaning the actual litter box itself, too. Make sure to use a cleaner that's safe for cats, and for extra odor control, you may find luck using a cat-specific enzyme cleaner that's designed to get rid of urine smells.

And one apartment dwelling cat mom shared in Real Simple that she has started using a diaper pail to expose of her cat's waste when she cleans the litter box every day, which seals in the odors and keeps her from making multiple trips to the dumpster.

Never discount a powerful air freshener, either — just make sure that whatever product or scent you choose is safe for use in a home with pets!
