Golden Retriever Protecting Bunny From Cat Is the Ultimate 'Good Boy'

There are some dogs out there who are just born to be protective, and then there are dogs who are born to be protected . I have one of the dogs who fits into the second category; despite the fact that her bark can sound quite intimidating when she's letting me know that the mail truck is making its way down the street, she's mostly alerting me that it's time to protect her from possible intruders and not the other way around. However, plenty of dogs out there make it their personal responsibility to stand and defend their humans and even the other pets in the household.

The dog in this TikTok video below isn't exactly the kind that you'd immediately think of when it comes to guard dogs, but that doesn't seem to have stopped him from putting in his best effort to be one for the bunny that also lives in his home — especially when the cat is nearby.

On Sunday, August 18, @3orangebros shared the sweetest video of her Golden Retriever , Lincoln, making sure that he protects his family's bunny from their orange cat, whose name is Mo, at all costs. It doesn't matter what's happening at the time — that cat is not getting to that bunny on Lincoln's watch!

In one clip, Lincoln is simply standing next to the bunny as his personal bodyguard, and in another, he's actually got his paw on the cat's head when they're lounging next to the bunny's enclosure. He'd better not even think about looking at that bunny!

It speaks volumes to see just how comfortable the bunny is around Lincoln. Dogs and rabbits don't always mix, but in this case, the bunny feels safe enough to climb all over the dog and even nap with him. This is what real friendship looks like!

Do Golden Retrievers Make Good Guard Dogs?

Golden Retrievers typically aren't thought of as guard dogs — they have super friendly, gentle personalities and aren't typically aggressive, which makes them such great dogs to have around other animals and small kids.

However, as Golden Meadows Retrievers points out, these dogs do have a protective instinct , and will be quick to alert their family if something is wrong.

Rather than guarding and defending, Golden Retrievers act best as a deterrent, since they can let out of a loud, scary bark to scare a potential intruder off and are very observant animals.

Knowing this, it's no wonder that Lincoln stayed ready to protect the bunny from Mo. Not a single move that cat made was going to get by him!
