Just like people, animals sometimes take time to find the right friends. While it's heartbreaking to see an innocent creature mistreated by their peers, it can lead them to where they are meant to be. That's what happened to this beautiful horse when his loving parents realized that letting him go would be in his best interest.

Despite the difficulty of the decision, the sanctuary became the perfect place for him to heal and thrive. Surrounded by horses who understood him, he found companionship and a new lease on life.

See the difference a year can make in this video from August 17:

What a change love and friendship can bring! Last year, the Gentle Barn (@ thegentlebarn ) received a call from Marley’s previous parents, who were worried about his well-being. As a senior horse with a back injury, he was bullied by other horses and struggled to access food and water. This caused this magnificent horse to lose weight and hope rapidly. Fortunately, he was taken to this beautiful sanctuary, where everyone has helped him thrive. Now, he has made friends who keep him company and always has access to water and organic hay. He also gets bedtime treats, acupuncture, massages, a soft bed, and baths. On top of that, he loves the attention and carrots from Sunday visitors and has even developed a special bond with their matriarch horse, Bonnie. Sometimes, all it takes is understanding and kindness to make life worth living again.

    Do Horses Experience Depression?

Horse & Rider says these majestic creatures can become depressed , just like humans. It can occur if they live in a chronic state of stress, which can include their physical health, living conditions, training conditions, boredom, and even feeding schedule. Symptoms of depression can include lethargy, a change in eating habits, a poor coat, withdrawal, and changes in posture. As with this senior horse , finding suitable companions and ideal conditions can significantly improve their emotional state.

This story resonated deeply with people and inspired them to share their gratitude. One person responded, “He’s so happy. Thank you for giving him a wonderful home and life!” They have provided him with a truly remarkable life. Another person shared, “This warms my heart. Thank God there are people in the world like you.” We can all be grateful the world is better because of them.

This remarkable sanctuary gave this amazing horse a second chance, and he is seizing every moment. What a heartwarming reminder of how kindness can make all the difference in someone’s life.
