Strangers Find Lost Cat at Boston's Logan Airport and the Outcome Is Fascinating

Cats wander, and that's part of the reason why letting them outside is so controversial: genuinely, if you let a cat out unsupervised, there's a seriously chance you will never see them again. Who knows where they'll go, what they'll encounter, or if they'll manage to get back safely?

For one cat, his family feared the worst had happened: their cat had gotten out and, somehow, been lost to them forever. But on Sunday, August 18th, it came out that that actually wasn't the case at all. What had happened was actually a little weirder:

CBS Boston's story is a real head-scratcher, and one of the main reasons why pets not being able to talk is so annoying. Tell us what happened, Harry! Please!

Harry lives in Somerville, Massachusetts, which is about 10 miles away from Boston. He lives inside exclusively with his human family and his cat-brother, Ron, who did not join his brother on his great adventure. There are two main unknowns here: how he got out and how in the world he ended up in a parking garage at Logan Airport. I've been there many times, and I can hardly find the main parking garages with GPS and opposable thumbs.

People have a few theories about what might've gotten him there:

    1. He loves boxes, so maybe he found a delivery truck full of them and climbed on.
    2. Someone stole and then dropped him there.
    3. He literally just managed to walk there.

We will never know, and it will keep me up at night. At this point, though, Harry seems to be over it: he's home, he's with his family, and he is probably going to stay inside for the rest of his life. He's had enough adventure!

How Far From Home do Outdoor Cats Roam?

If you have an indoor/outdoor cat and you let them outside freely, the truth is that you have basically no idea where they're going. You might be able to gauge the general area they frequent based on what you hear from your neighbors, but that's about it.

When you let a cat out, they will often choose to stay close to home (within about a half a mile). However, that is just because they don't want to get lost. A cat can walk up to two miles in one night. If your cat gets lost or disoriented, they can end up miles away from home in just a few days.

Harry ended up being missing for 3 weeks, and in those 3 weeks, he somehow managed to not only walk 10 miles, but to walk 10 miles to Logan Airport. He may have had help, but he also may not have. It is completely feasible for him to have gotten that far by himself!
