Long-Haired Black Cat Makes Mom's Halloween Decoration Her Spooky Season Bestie

I know most of us are probably trying to squeeze in that last bit of summer before fall sets in, but personally? I have been counting down the days until everything suddenly becomes pumpkin flavored for awhile now. Don't get me wrong, I love summer, but there's something so special about crunchy leaves and watching Hocus Pocus ... but that might also be because I am the proud mom to a black cat, so it only seems right!

And while my cat isn't a huge fan of Halloween (she's a big "no" on the costumes, along with strangers constantly ringing her doorbell all night on October 31), it seems like there are definitely others out there who are. Case in point: The adorable kitty featured in the TikTok video below who might just be even more ready for spooky season than I am.

In fact, some of us are already preparing for Halloween — the black cat in this TikTok video from @mcgoblinn included.

To the untrained eye, this might just look like an adorable cat lounging on a Halloween decoration, but there is lore here. The pumpkin in the video is Lewis Jr., a smaller version of Target's massively popular jack-o-lantern decoration who debuted last year with the catchphrase, "I am not a jack-o-lantern. My name is Lewis."

This kitty doesn't know that she's lounging in the lap of a celebrity, though, and apparently, she's not the only black cat to do this. Not only did the OP stitch a video of another black cat enjoying Lewis' company, but multiple cat moms in the comments stated that they've found their black cats hanging out in his lap, too.

Seems like they can sense that they're safe with him... or that he symbolizes Halloween, the same way they often do?

How Did Black Cats Come to Symbolize Halloween?

According to History.com, black cats have been linked to witchcraft for basically forever — the earliest mention of them being linked to the occult dates back to the year 1233.

Cat expert Layla Morgan Wilde told the site that early Christians didn't like cats because they seemed to have a "disrespect for authority," and were associated with witches by people who believed that they could turn into them.

This connection only grew stronger and more widespread over time, but it wasn't until later that superstitions around black cats being bad luck began to grow.

In all my years as a mom to a black cat, I can confirm that she's been nothing but good luck — though I do wish I could turn into her every once in awhile. Who wouldn't want to spend their days napping in that place where the sun hits the stairs?
