Determined Dachshund's Commitment to Catching Bug Is Ferociously Fruitless

One of the biggest perks about having pets — you know, besides the unconditional love and companionship — that we don't talk about enough is the fact that they make excellent pest control. Sure, cats are well known for catching mice and similar members of the rodent family (even when we don't want them to) but dogs can hold up their end of the deal pretty darn well, too. At least, mine has never been one to let. a bug roam free who crosses her path, and I never have to kill any spiders myself if I'm home alone. It's a win/win!

The little lady featured in this TikTok video is among the best of the best when it comes to bug catching. Sure, it might be actually impossible for her to get ahold of this bug, seeing as it's on the other side of the screened window, but that's not going to stop her!

In general, Dachshund pups may not be seen as the most ferocious animals out there, but people may think twice about that when they see this video of Nova shared by @thedoxiesanddiv on Monday, August 19. She is bound and determined to catch the bug she spotted on the window, and she's not giving up until it's done.

Unfortunately for her (but fortunately for the bug), the bug is separated from her and stuck between the glass and the screen of the window, where it's safe... but if things were different, their day would have been a lot worse with Nova on their case.

I feel bad that she wasn't able to secure a victory and protect her home from this intruder the way she clearly wanted to, but it's okay. There will be more bugs, so Nova will get her chance to prove herself next time.

Why Do Dogs Like to Catch Bugs?

Though some dogs will be more in touch with their exterminator side than others, if your pup likes to catch bugs as much as Nova seems to, you can rest assured that this is perfectly normal behavior.

In fact, according to Wag!, many dogs like flying bugs the best, since they often annoy them by buzzing around, which can bring out those hunting instincts. This isn't an issue when we're talking about harmless insects like flies, but can become a problem if they accidentally catch a bee that stings them.

Keeping an eye on the surroundings when your dog is outside or anywhere else a bug might be present is never a bad idea, just so you know if you need to direct them away from an insect they will definitely regret trying to catch!

Otherwise, have at it — maybe your dog can finally get that annoying bug problem in the yard under control?
