Sweet Grandma Schnauzer Steps in to Babysit Puppies So Mom Can Take a Break

Motherhood is not easy. Before you even get into the day-to-day normal issues, there's the ridiculously uneasy act of actually birthing the baby, and then there's the caring for them part - all while you're recovering from the birth. It's just about the most amazing thing ever.

Every new mom needs a break, though, including the non-human ones. Luckily, on Tuesday, August 20th, a TikTok was posted that showed off that it takes a village for everyone, not just humans. The new-mom-Schnauzer was lucky enough to have her own mom there to help:

Toni Lyn Fay has an incredible group of dogs, that's for sure. Congrats to Grandma Luch; those are some beautiful puppies!

At first glance, you might think that they actually named their Schnauzer Skyline (like, the chili restaurant), but they did not! Skyline Giant Schnauzers is an AKC certified breeder of Giant Schnauzers, named for the way they're so big they look like a skyline. They specialize in breeding show dogs specifically, and their website shows off all of their resident dogs and others who have won shows past!

This litter belongs to Dolce (mom) and Trust (dad who is listed as "Skyline's Trust Fund Baby"). The new parents have all the help they could possibly need, and their puppies will be trained and groomed to perfection, some of them made available for sale and others staying behind to join Skyline's ranks. In the meantime, though, they get to have fun being puppies, and that means lots of playing and time spent with their mom and Grandma Luch!

Do Dogs Need Breaks From Their Puppies?

Whelping is exhausting. Breastfeeding anywhere from 1-10 puppies at a time is also exhausting. Puppies are perhaps the most exhausting thing of all: they don't stay little for long. By about their 4th week, they'll be walking, sometimes running, and learning to vocalize. They start socializing and, worse, teething.

A mama dog absolutely needs breaks from her puppies, and any responsible breeder will see to it that she gets them. Typically, the mama will try to leave the whelping box shortly after giving birth: she needs to stretch her legs, potty, and chill. Allowing her to leave is fine as long as she's back in time for feeding.

While you're letting her have some me-time, it's the perfect time to introduce some other dogs to the puppies (in this case, their grandma). You should be careful to only bring vaccinated dogs around your new pups, and avoid any dogs that have fleas. When mom comes back, she'll be ready for a snuggle, and so will her pups!
