Every pet deserves a loving home. For some, it sadly doesn't happen the first time around, but the lucky ones get a second chance. This is the case with Twinkle the Chihuahua mix, whose incredible story of overcoming adversity keeps getting better and better.
An August 21 TikTok video shared by Isabel Klee ( @simonsits ) shows just how far foster pup Twinkle has come since learning to trust again. Warning: this one requires tissues. Watch his journey and be prepared to sob.
The clip recaps what sweet Twinkle has been through in his life and, well, it's been rough. His beginnings from "deplorable conditions" haunted him, and he was rated a level 5 for behavior issues and couldn't be adopted out to the public. He didn't want to be handled or touched, and he didn't trust a single soul not to hurt him.
Then Klee came to his rescue, and little by little, the once terrified pup began to trust again. It took a lot of patience—and even more yummy ham to coax him out of his shell—to show him he was safe. Eventually, this little guy found the bravery to open his heart again with Klee saying he "quite literally became a puddle in my arms."
"Life is something worth sticking around for," the caption reads, with a few hopeful lessons she says Twinkle taught her along the way.
"Healing is possible. Don't judge a book by its cover," she says in the video. "And patience goes a long way."
She continued explaining why exactly Twinkle's story has touched so many people.
"It's that we can all see ourselves in Twinkle. Yes, he's a tiny Chihuahua with missing teeth, but he's also been through and seen some horrible things. And yet, he is capable of love. He is capable of trust, capable of living a beautiful, fulfilling life. And isn't that a little comforting for us all?"
"Life can be violent and tragic and so painful it knocks the breath right out of you," she added with a shot of Twinkle laying in bed with her. "But at the end if you allow it, it is still something worth sticking around for."
With a story as emotional as this, it's no wonder so many had something to say about the way it made them feel.
"This is beautiful. Thank you for showing him the love he deserves," the account for @weratedogs wrote. "Every single time I see Twinkle show more of himself I cry," another person said. "Can’t wait to see where life takes Twinkle next! I hope he finds the best forever home," another added.
In a previous story about Twinkle, the timid, scared pup had only just begun to ask for affection from his foster mom, and it was the most achingly beautiful scene. We're thrilled at how much he's progressed since those first real moments he shed his tough exterior to let someone in.

Twinkle Is Now Available for Adoption
If Twinkle's story touched your heart and you have enough love to give this senior boy, consider adopting him. His profile on the site says the "spicy king" has overcome so much, but he now loves climbing into laps and exploring the backyard.
He gets slightly protective of his food and bed spaces, but "he is EASILY won over by pieces of ham and cheese," they say.
Twinkle is around 9 years old and fully grown at 7 pounds. He's microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations.
"He is so sweet, and I can only imagine how much further he'll come after more time!" the page adds.
