Golden Retriever 'Yodeling' for Food Is the Definition of Dinner and a Show

When dogs get hungry, they will try just about anything to get food out of you. Standing your ground is important - they need to stick to their routines. Even so, it won't stop them from trying.

One Golden Retriever might've just changed the game: on Monday, August 19th, her mom exposed her tactic. When she thinks it's time to eat, she breaks into a yodel... and she's surprisingly good at it. She would have me under her spell in a minute!

Pearl the Golden Girl has won me right over, and I'm not the only one. Her yodeling skills are impressive, adorable, and a surefire way to get whatever she wants!

Pearl has gone viral before, and not for her yodeling skills. With almost a million followers, Pearl has a few different schticks: trying dog-safe versions of human foods, barking into mini microphones, and being a Golden Retriever, which always tends to help with getting a following. Being gorgeous never fails!

Behind it all, though, Pearl is just a normal dog, and that means she's a bit dramatic, especially when the clock strikes dinner time. Don't let her sweet exterior fool you: she does not play about food. She might yodel for you first, but she will settle for knocking you over if you don't deliver on time. Pearl, I want to be you when I grow up, and I mean that.

Why Does My Dog Get Angry Before Dinner?

Pearl's case of the pre-dinner grumpies is pretty mild compared to some other dogs, and it's just crazy. Even if you have the sweetest dog in the world, you might notice that they turn a little mean around dinnertime, and often persist with that bad attitude until they're fed.

To put it simply, dogs get angry around dinnertime because they're hungry. They know their routine, and their body adapts to it, sending hunger cues through them for as long as 30 minutes before dinnertime. Dogs have no concept of waiting, really: they won't understand that you're late feeding them because you're busy. They just know that they're hungry.

If your dog gets grumpy before dinner or throws tantrums to try and get you to feed them early, you should not do what they want or give them a treat to "hold them over." Tell them to wait, gently redirect the behavior, and move on. If it seems to be a serious, ongoing issue, you should talk to your vet to make sure your schedule works and there isn't an underlying problem to address. Pearl is just a girl who loves to sing - there's nothing wrong here!
