Birds need to have fun. If they don't get to have fun, you will face their wrath, or worse, they will. Bored birds are birds that pluck - always remember that! In many cases, hanging out with you is all the love and attention they need.

Recently, though, one bird mom went above and beyond: she created a whole special cupboard for her lovebird to play in. When she sees it, it's clear to everyone watching that she's totally in love:

If there's one thing Tamia Overes is going to do, it's make sure her lovebird has what she needs. Or wants. She does not take no for an answer.

Tamia's lovebird is a girl, but her name is Prince (government name: Princetopher). Originally, after bring her home, she thought Prince was a boy - she is not. She is a girl, but the name Princess was taken by her first lovebird, who passed away a few years ago. Prince fits her, though - very well.

The cupboard she set up for Prince is actually her own variation of their "Forbidden Cupboard," which is the cupboard they keep all their nice cups in, and the one Princetopher covets. Now, with her own cupboard and cups she can both sit in and stick her head in, hopefully she'll stay away from the glassware... but knowing Prince, I doubt it.

    Enrichment Ideas For Lovebirds

All birds need enrichment, and they seek it in different ways depending on the species. Some things are ubiquitous hits, like music, bells or textured perches, while others are more specific.

    For example, lovebirds love to:

    1. Swing from ladders and dangly perches.
    2. Shred paper and make nests.
    3. Hit their beaks against metal, glass, and anything else that makes a big noise.
    4. Fly into your highest cupboards and chill out in your glasses.

This cup cupboard is actually a cool and relatively inexpensive idea: you could take it one step further and use little paper cups instead for the added bonus of shredding! Little "obstacle courses" for your lovebird to climb through, complete with some treats as a reward to encourage their foraging instincts, are a great way to keep them busy.

Lastly, finding a way to be able to take them outside is awesome, too! While you can often find leashes for bigger birds, a tiny lovebird might be a little harder to manage. Clear cat backpacks or even a smaller, specifically outdoor cage will work. Maybe next, we'll get to watch Prince conquer the great outdoors!
